How the estimates work

In the kitchen

How to make it.

  1. Heat the oven to 190°C / 170°C fan. Dissolve the instant coffee in 30 ml hot water, then leave to cool slightly.
  2. Mash the banana. Mix with the oats, milk, beaten egg and two-thirds of the dissolved coffee. Spoon into a small lined baking dish, aiming for a depth of about 3 cm.
  3. Bake for 22–25 minutes until set through the centre with no wet egg mixture. Leave to cool completely before adding the topping.
  4. Beat the cream cheese with the yoghurt, honey and remaining coffee until smooth. Spread over the cooled oats.
  5. Cover and chill for at least 30 minutes. Sift the cocoa over the top just before serving and divide into 2 portions.

Fit it around your training.

Why this combination?

Oats and banana contribute carbohydrate; dairy and egg supply protein. This is a breakfast recipe, not a measured caffeine supplement.

When it could work for you

A make-ahead breakfast after a morning run, or before training when you allow enough time to digest. Avoid caffeinated versions near bedtime if they affect your sleep.

Plan food before, during & after your run

Storage & leftovers.

Cool, cover and refrigerate within one to two hours. Eat within 48 hours, following any earlier ingredient use-by date.
