How the estimates work

In the kitchen

How to make it.

  1. Heat the oven to 200°C, or 180°C fan. Peel and chop sweet potato, then boil until soft and drain well. Mash with the milk.
  2. Meanwhile, dice onion, carrot and mushrooms. Heat the oil in a wide pan and soften the onion and carrot for five minutes.
  3. Add turkey, breaking it up with a spoon. Cook thoroughly, then stir in mushrooms and crushed garlic.
  4. Add tomatoes, peas and 120 ml water. Simmer until the vegetables and peas are cooked and the filling is thick enough to hold the topping.
  5. Spoon into a baking dish, spread mash over it and scatter grated cheddar on top. Bake for 15–20 minutes until bubbling and hot throughout, with golden edges. Divide into 4 portions.

Fit it around your training.

Why this combination?

Turkey supplies protein and sweet potato brings carbohydrate. Mushrooms deepen the savoury flavour and a modest amount of cheddar adds a browned finish.
