Flat UK half marathons: find your next PB attempt

A flatter route can help you settle into a rhythm. The right race also needs to fit your training, travel and the time you have to prepare. Compare the options below, then open the guide for entry rules and race-day detail.

Course descriptions come from the linked organiser pages. Where a detailed map is from an earlier year, its edition is shown. Entry labels use the same records as our race guides.

Flat road course through Peterborough, including the city centre and cathedral grounds.

A good option if you want a road half without a long sustained climb. Keep the opening controlled and allow for crowds and turns.

2027 Cambridge Half Marathon14 Mar 2027

A flat city-and-country route, with college landmarks and roads towards Grantchester.

Choose for the setting as well as the profile. A flat course still has corners and other runners to negotiate.

General entries sold out

2027 Cardiff Half Marathon3 Oct 2027

Predominantly flat roads through the city, Cardiff Bay and the Roath Park area.

The bay section makes conditions worth considering. Judge effort in any wind instead of forcing identical splits.

Official course information

Published route description on the 2027 event website; final instructions may change.

Entry window closed

The UK and international ballots closed on 18 October. Results are being issued on 22 October; official charity and tour-operator routes are advertised separately.

2027 ASICS Manchester Half3 Oct 2027

The organiser describes the event as having a flat route, traditionally based around Old Trafford.

Check your edition’s actual start, finish and map before booking travel. A large field needs patient early pacing.

Entry window closed

Public entry is temporarily paused while capacity is reviewed. The organiser expects more places in the new year and offers an updates form for first refusal.

2027 David Cliff Wokingham Half Marathon21 Feb 2027

Mainly flat out-and-back roads, with an opening climb of about 600 metres in length and a descent towards mile two.

The opening is the exception to the flat label. Let its pace be slower rather than spending extra effort to hit your target immediately.

Official course information

Published route description; the displayed route image is labelled 2026.

What makes a PB course work for you?

  1. Look beyond the gradient. Turns, field size, surface and the weather can change the experience.
  2. Choose a date that gives your current training room to develop. A faster course cannot replace preparation.
  3. Check the actual entry route before paying for travel. Sold-out and ballot races may have separate charity options.
