MEET THE AUTHOR

Meet Charlotte Thom, a Level 3 personal trainer, nutrition-qualified runner and founder and editor of The Runner’s Journal.

Charlotte Thom

Founder and Editor, The Runner’s Journal · Level 3 Personal Trainer · Nutrition Qualified

Charlotte Thom is the founder and editor of The Runner’s Journal, an independent platform created to make running training, nutrition and recovery research easier to understand.

Charlotte is a Level 3 qualified personal trainer and holds a nutrition qualification. She has completed half marathons and is now training for both the London and Manchester Marathons in 2027.

Her interest in running is therefore both professional and personal. She understands what it is like to balance structured training, strength work, fuelling and recovery while preparing for a demanding goal.

Charlotte is particularly interested in the gap between the advice runners encounter online and what the available evidence can genuinely support. She created The Runner’s Journal to explore that gap without presenting one training method, diet or product as the universal answer.

Charlotte researches, writes and edits articles across the website. Her work focuses on translating complex subjects into practical guidance while making the limits of the evidence clear.

Her personal-training and nutrition qualifications support her work in exercise and nutrition education. They do not make her a doctor, physiotherapist or registered dietitian, and The Runner’s Journal does not present general articles as personalised medical or dietetic advice.

Editorial approach

Charlotte’s editorial priorities are:

  • Using original research and recognised professional guidance where possible
  • Separating established recommendations from emerging ideas
  • Avoiding guarantees and exaggerated performance claims
  • Explaining when individual needs may differ
  • Correcting material errors openly
